To the otherwise untrained eye, the Morbark 2230 TCP chipper and Morbark M20R Forestry chipper are nearly the same. Right? Well, not quite. In fact, there are a number of things that differentiate the two from one another.

Essentially, the M20R is an industrial-grade machine built heavier with a bigger frame and heavier-duty steel to withstand the demands of higher production. Think of it this way, the M20R is built like a Morbark whole tree chipper and the 2230 is built more in common with the standard brush chipper.

For example, the Advantage 3 Drum on the M20R Forestry chipper creates more uniform chips and reduces operating and maintenance cost. Uniform chips improve product quality in processes like pulping, biomass energy, and landscaping. Uniform chips are also easier to process, handle, and have a more consistent combustion profile, which leads to fewer problems, better performance, and higher yields.

To put things into perspective, I put together a comparison chart that outlines some of the most prominent feature differences. Here’s how they stack up:

Now that we’ve looked at a few of the side-by-side differences, I’d like to note that Morbark will not mix and match these design features. For example, I’m often asked if a 2230 wheeled chipper can be built with a live infeed bed instead of the rigid infeed. It cannot but the track version can. You also can’t get the hydraulic rotating chute on the M20R or that massive forestry chute on one of the 2230 models. They weren’t designed that way and unless you’re going to be purchasing an insane number of them, it would be too expensive to redesign.

It’s also important to note these are not all of the differences between the two models. For a complete list of features or to get a chipper quote, reach out to Morbark here: https://www.morbark.com/contact-us/

Morbark 2230 Loader

“Wait a minute? You can get a loader on that thing?!” Yes, the 2230 comes in a loader version. Talk about a high-producing combo!
